basket

i was at a rumage sale recently and finally found a large wicker basket that i could use as a photography prop. and then i was so lucky to have one of my clients call to book a photo session for their newborn baby. again, i had done some 'belly' shots for them so i was very excited to meet the little bub and to have a baby only 1 week old to photograph! he was such a good little boy and fell asleep so nicely in this basket. don't you just want to give him a cuddle? i think the secret to photographing newborns is waiting until they are in a nice deep sleep; i wish we had tried a few more things after this moment, but really didn't want to wake him up again!! it is so amazing to see two people so in love with their baby, thanks to s & j for sharing little h with me for an hour =)

collage

one of my favorite things to do for my clients are collages, or storyboards as they are sometimes called in the phography world. why do i like them? well i suppose the most obvious reason is that they look absolutely fantastic framed up on the wall! but i think the real reason is the freedom they allow. you don't have to pick your one favorite photo, you can use your favorite 3 or 6 or 12 and put them together to create something that represents your child or family. and i love that, rather than just popping your photos into a precut mat, a collage allows you to have so many more options for the sizes of photos and the layout, plus you can really make it personal and unique by adding a name or date or a quote. to me a collage is all about possibility - the possibilities are endless. and if you can dream it i can create it!

here is a recent collage i did for a family. i didn't plan to do this collage and the mum didn't ask that i create one, but i found that i could not chose my one favorite photo of this pose! so i thought, to hell with it! i am not going to pick one favorite, i am going to use all 3! like i said, it is all about the possibility... =)

cousins

it has been about a year since i decided to do photography as business and it certainly seems to be 'growing' nicely as i am in the middle of my busiest month yet! i would say 90% of my clients come to me because of a friend's recommendation. not only is this wonderful for business but i also take it as a huge compliment, because it means my clients are pleased with the work i have done for them. i am so appreciative of them for passing my name along!

one of my past clients recently called to ask if i could do some photos for a family member visiting from queensland. of course we had to get some shots of the two babies together and i just love how they turned out. as you would expect, there are many shots where one is rolling away, looking the other direction, climbing on top of the other etc. etc. but those ones will still be fun for the scrapbook. these are two of my favorites! =)

Tilly

about two years ago i 'made up a new friend' (as ella would say) at playgroup. she had just moved to adelaide from england, and as i could definitely relate to that experience, we became friends. our older kids are off at kindy and school now, and neither of us attend that playgroup anymore, but we have kept in touch. and when i heard she had her baby girl i offered up my services right away! here is sweet little matilda, just 6 weeks old. she didn't really want her photograph taken, but i think we managed to sneak in a few good shots. thanks suezi, for letting me do your baby shots! =)

a few weeks ago i met a lovely couple and took some 'belly' shots for them. they were so sweet and so excited about becoming parents! last week i got to meet their sweet little baby boy who was very good about letting me take more photos! the very first photo I took is my favorite one ~ i have attached it both in colour and black and white. i almost always like black and white better, but the green stripes were just too cute! anyhow, it is such a cool thing to follow parents through their journey from pregancy to parenthood. i'm glad to be invited along for the ride! =)

first post

well, i said on my facebook group this was a day of firsts. first twins. first booking for a dog. first blog post! i really should be editing photos, but sometimes it is nice to take a break. i have been wanting to start a blog for a while now, and the 'facebook group' format wasn't really allowing me to do what i wanted. so here it goes....


here are the twins. super cute! they are 1 year old and were so easy going about having their photo taken. i did need to use some photoshop magic ~ we could not get them both still at the same time and looking in the same direction. so much fun =)
